TERTIARY EDUCATION

ACADEMIC CRITERIA
In this section, the specifications will be outlined, stating the certain academic
characteristics needed for the student to be eligible:
The nominated eligible student is chosen by the teaching administration of the participating school.
This award is applicable ONLY to colleges and universities. Eligible students must be pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in English Literature or an Associate Degree with English Literature as the only, or one of the MAJORS.
The eligible student must at the end of their degree tenure, have attained First Class Honours with a 3.75 GPA or above, in the undergraduate BA Literatures in English Programme/ Associate Degree in English Literatures.
The eligible student must have 80% class attendance or fulfill the participating Tertiary Institution's class attendance stipulations. Allowance is made for institution- approved absence for illness or other rationale.
The eligible student must show an avid and undeniable interest in the Reading of
given text and other educational literature.
The eligible student must maintain active participation in English Literature classes, as well as other academic classes.
It is preferred (but not mandatory), that the eligible student participates in the participating tertiary institution's activities and organisations (UWI/BCC Guild or clubs etc). Allowance is also made for external philanthropic participation (volunteer projects/membership of volunteer organisations and charities).
These are the academic requirements needed for the prospective student to be deemed
eligible to receive this award.
MORAL CRITERIA
In this section, the specifications will be outlined, stating the certain moral characteristics needed for the student to be eligible:
The eligible student must not have a criminal record, prior or post winning of the award. If involved in a legal matter, the eligible student must be found exonerated.
The Gabrielle Gay Award for Excellence in English Literature reserves the right to remove any alumni who is found convicted of criminal activity.
These are the moral requirements needed for the prospective student to be deemed
eligible to receive this award.
